NDR - Chasing Wabbits (PIC HEAVY)

With his nails fixed like he likes them, my son and I met up with our old friend Todd to chase rabbits on Groundhogs day.

The splendid sounds of hounds on trail of a hot cottontail is very much a trill. You add to that recipe; my son's first rabbit hunt, an old friend, beautiful scenery and snowfall. You can't help but to have a good time.

Moving as swiftly as we could to stay out in front of the pushy hounds was tricky at best, the cover was thick. And for the most part Todd kept us in the right spot.....Its not his fault we suck at shooting...:) Man, them damn things are hard to hit! Especially in the cover we were footing around in...but none the less we had a great time and I stand by my motto: "Shoot and Shoot Often" and that's just what I did...

My bunny shooting skills pissed the hounds off and the wise ole rabbits made me look foolish in front of my 12 year.......Wait... even with the bad shooting - He is the one wearing nail polish.. and its pink...LOL (see below for reason to that) I did mange a few clicks with the camera and Todd felt sorry for us and smoked a bunny to keep us from going home empty handed.

hope you enjoy - Vic

Insight to the painted finger nails: My Son's Middle school Baseball fundraiser was an Ugly Walk - And like everything he does... he wants to win.. on this night he fell short but placed UGLIER and not UGLIEST. It was a great event and he as they say "Brought It!" really letting his hair down so to speak and put on a good show....my sides still hurt from all the laughing..

Dang, that brought back some great memories of hunting rabbits in northeast PA with my uncle & cousins back when I was your son's age! Great hunt! Thanks for posting!

Gotta hand it to him, he sure did get good & ugly, and in this instance, that is a compliment!

I use to love hunting rabbits till my wife decided they were too cute to kill. .......By the way, no need to explain the "situation" with your son. After all times are changing....LOL. Got to give him credit for having the uuuuhhhhh balls (?) to put that stuff on and show up in public.

Ugly, heck I think he looks kind of hot. Then again it's been a long winter up here

Vic - Thank you for taking me down memory lane! That is exactly how I started in 1972, hunting rabbits with beagles. Nothing better. I can hear them baying now...

grew up hunting bunnies. havent done it in years.
i still have a beagle along with my lab but he doesnt hunt,
more of a lap dog. so is the lab for that matter.

What a great read, Victor. Loved the pics of your environment. The snow I can do without. By the way, I see you have sticky stuff also, like the cockleburs that we have here. Great shot of the pups. Got a hoot out of the middle school contest.

Carl, we were in Cooperstown, NY over the summer to playing baseball. I drove the distance and as we got close I jumped off the interstate and drove on in thru the back roads... That is some PUR-Teee country up there... anytime you'd like to see some of that country let me know.. i took some good pics of the valleys, barns, etc... i'd be glad to post them up if no one here objected...

Thank you Al, I am glad you enjoyed it.... Those Begger Lice take some pickin' time to get off... I'm not a fan of them... Todd has a good pack of hounds.. I hope to get out more with him and them before February ends.
