NDR - Home Security Cameras. We were vandalized again last night.

Anyone know anything about these. Our house was hit last night for the second time in less than a year by vandals. First time they broke into my truck during hunting season and stole a few items and did some minor damage. Last night they found it humorous to spray paint a large excited male organ (with action shot) right across the side of our daughters car. Most was on the windows but enough got on the paint. Spent 5 hours today removing paint and I think I got most of it. You would think I live in the slums or something.

Oh, these are not targeted attacks as many other cars were broken into last year and a bunch of houses and cars were tagged last night.

We have a monitored home security system, the associated signs out front, we turn the outside lights on at night since the first vandalism and we have a street light right down at the end of our driveway. What else can I do?

I'm looking at the fake security cameras and have since learned that real camera systems can be had for not a whole lot more money. Anyone know anythig about these? Best ones, Best manufacturer etc....

Had an interesting conversation with the police officer this afternoon. They are fairly certain this is the work of 4-5 younger girls. The handwriting, the messages left etc... leads them this way. He also thinks they have an idea of who these upstanding young ladies are. Good, I hope they catch the little ___________ (insert unmentionable here).

I also asked the cop what would happen if I happen to catch the little touble makers in action. Say they tried to run away and I tackled them and they got bruised and bloodied up or something. Would I be in some hot water? Not according to the officer. He also said that he has a 50/50 chance of catching these kids. 50% of the time he will catch them and bring them to court and the other 50% of the time someone else will catch them and the cops will never hear about it. I found this very interesting.

Any help on home security systems is greatly appreciated.

I'd set up a trail camera mounted in a bearsafe, Cabela's has some that are pretty cheap. Catch em' in the act and put a stop to it.

Mark......not sure you were serious about the tackling and bruising comments but I wouldn't take what the officer had to say about to the bank. I ran into a similar situation concerning my boat and the area it was kept in and was told something similar by the sheriff department. I'm not the guy who caught the vandal, but the guy who did wound up doing more jail time than the vandal after the vandal "fell down" and busted his arm while running away. Like it was suggested, use a trail cam with infared (no flash, they won't know you have their pics) mounted up high as possible.

Look at Predator Trail Cams. They are from Gurney, WI and I interviewed the owner, Perry, for a newspaper story when I lived up there. Their product is the top of the line - I was especially interested in the surveilance aspect as well, and these are the ticket. Get one of their cameras and their adjustable tree mount so you can put it up high. The girls will never know you got the evidence until their attorney shows it to them.

I won't get any kickbacks, or anything, but tell him I told you to call . . . he'll appreciate that.

I'll definately go with the ELEVATED, NO FLASH/INFRARED trail cams....We had some thievs at my buds hunting club that would steal stands and deer feeders, and any camera that flashed at them or that they could see, they stole, too. Now, there are cameras all over, but they have IR flashes and are at least 20' up trees with wedges pointing down. What's likely is that someone might mistake one of these hoods for a 'deer' with a feeder stuck to it's back. LOL

x10.com has a lot of systems that can work with your PC. I don't know about their quality, but they have complete kits that cover a variety of requirements. They are very cheap and that always has me concerned.

Costco and Sam's club sell multi camera systems in their on-line stores. They come with a DVR and may not provide any kind of notification about movement.

brickhouse systems are supposed to be pretty good. Even though they are wireless you still need a power supply. A trip to Radio shack and some small 12v sealed batteries and some connectors and you are good to go for a few days.

It sounds like you need a motion detector that will turn on the camera system and maybe notify you.

A lot of installations are for placing cameras up high so that they are not tampered with. My neighbor did this and all he gets are "utes" in dark hoodies and jeans. No shots of the faces of anyone that messes with his stuff. Do you know how many teens fit the discription of "dark hoodie and jeans"? Dozens in my neighborhood. He needs one of those pin hole cameras in the door of the shed and he will have pics of their faces.

Mark,

Ditto on a camera location which will identify the perps with a good facial photo. Mounting one concealed should not be that big of an issue as long as there is no flash to give away the location. Hide it in a bush, inside a bird house or bird feeder or any other lawn ornament. You must already have a lawn gnome or two don't you?????

Mark,

You might consider moving to Iowa. hehe :>) :>)

Then I would know for certain I'm in the slums huh Dave?

This stuff really tee's me off. If the little angels had any idea how hard some of us have to work to keep cars, house, boats whatever looking nice.

Personally, I don't believe the cops when they say it is 4-5 females. I saw what was written on the neighbors garage and I've never met any female who even thought of this kind of stuff. According to our neighborhood association president, who happens to be the neighbor of the little hooldum I first suspected of causing the damage, he is certain it is the little hoodlum and his friends and he has some evidence to back his statement up.

The drama of it all.

Regarding the little angels falling while running away from me, the police writing the reports and walking the neighborhood told many that should they have an accident while caught in the crime, it wouldn't be looked upon as being all that bad (what he says and what a jury would say would not be one and the same I'm certain). Anyway, these angels have racked up tens of thousands of dollars in damage in the community and are now in the felony range according to what I have been told. They have destroyed a couple of parks, did more damage than just some spray apinting on many other cars, and have been very vulgar in their "artistic" muses.

They'll be caught when school returns as most kids can't keep their mouth shut. They'll have to brag to someone.

your comment to Dave re: Iowa was as harsh as anythig that I can imagine being "tagged" on your car.......at least the "young ladies" weren't "friends"......

Guess when you get "tagged" everyone wants to "tag back".....

In case it isn't clear, I am just having a little fun with Dave. As we have exchanged a few jabs over the past year, I thought he would see it this way. If not, all was said in jest Dave. I guess I should have been more specific and said that living anywhere in Northern IA would be like living in the slums (tee-hee).

You know why all the trees in MN lean south? Cause Iowa sucks.

Couldn't resist.

I have a 19 year old teenage daughter, I think I could shock you with some of the things we have had to deal with in the last couple of years with her and her so called friends. When there is a group they can get pretty crazy and nasty for sure!

Teenage girls can be just as "perverted" for lack of a better word, as to do something like what got put on your daughters car.
And actually that seems a little more like a girl drawing than something that a teenage boy may do??
I wouldnt count out what the police have a line on. Maybe Im wrong but Ive seen it first hand when my daughter was in high school, girls can sure dish out some mean SH*T!!

I hope they do catch them! Please keep us updated if you find anything out, it will be interesting to hear!

if you go the trail camera route the Scoutguard is the one you want.
I have built a few cameras using digital cams with a control board and a pelican case to hold it all in waterproof. But the new scoutguard is taking pictures as well as infared video that matches the best homebrew trail cams.

Not a lot of money for a lot of satisfaction when they show again.

Good luck.

Also, The second thing, is to offer a reward in your local papers classified for cash for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offender\s. It works. These type of kids us. have a buddy who will rat them out for the money and the perp's parents almost always pay the reward to have you say nice things to the judge.
Money talks, BS walks.

best one might be a twelve bore loaded with rock salt!!!! That is for the parents, with a good willow switch applied to the derrieres of the little chiennes!

Good natured ribbing is an Iowa-Minnesota tradition! What is the only sign of any intelligence in Minneapolis-St. Paul?........."Des Moines - 240 miles"......... At least were not as bad as the Sconies'. I've lived in this town,in this same house for 20 years and we have never locked our doors,............no, it's not heaven,it's Iowa.

At least Iowa isn't Wisconsin right?

What's the best thing to ever come out of Iowa? I-35.

Let the insults begin.....

Used to have a couple of friends from Iowa and MN. The MN friend used to ask the question of what did the Iowan get on his IQ test. Answer is - Drool!

Not taking sides, just thought it was funny. Could be used in many forms.

Whoa, back up the bus right there mister, and I use that term loosely!!

You should have said IlliNOISE with that comment...Now let the FIB, flatlander jokes start...hehehe,

Hope you get them Mark. Couple years back we had some do the same thing, only they used 5# maul to "sign" things, whole lot more damage, never did catch them unfortunately.

This is my advice......after viewing alot of different camera footage at work, Fist the thint to remember woth infared cameras are they change certain colors meaning if lets sau you catch a car pullin up in ur neighbor and the car is a light color an infared camera it will look very dark in color. Which could work agianst ya when you notify the local PD of this. Second a game trail camera is fine but you also have to think if it takes pictures of the vandals hopefully they are close enough to the camera to get a good picture and then hope someone can ID them or knows them by there picture. You have to think the same way with a video system. You could get a good system thats on a loop that records. Video is always better than photos anyday. Especially in court.
