Had a fun time out with a buddy. Caught a few crabs yesterday. Not alot but the ones we did get were pretty good size. A new record for me 8-1/8" point to point. Forgive the ugly mug holding the crabs. It was a long trip and came home tired.

Great crabs! Look at the size of that one - almost like a different animal. Like seeing a 200# buck when you have only shot 140# deer before.

We have been doing a bit of scapping ourselves - we are not in the greatest area, but we have been able to scratch some up on our past couple trips. A dozen and a half crabs saved our fishing trip on Wednesday.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Tod, your right, I have never even seen crabs like this is Jersey before, just got lucky I guess.

I've talked to a few crab boat rental, including the one next to your cabin, they said they've never seen such a great year for crabs. With the mild winter there wasn't any winter kill and they were catching they in April. With the crabs out so early they've had a lot of time to grow and really fatten up.

Jode, I've also started to see a few teal down that way too.

Nice crabs Jode! Paris caught some nice big ones in June. They sure felt heavy pulling up. Couldn't imagine what these felt like. Did you get them with a drop line or cage?

Being a "northerner", how do you cook those and what parts do you eat? Are those blue crabs?

Sorry for the rookie question. Eaten my fair share of snow, king and dungeons crab and had some blue crab a long time ago that we did catch but they didn't look like these.

Thanks -

Yes they are Blue crabs. You steam them whole with your favorite mix. I like old bay, a Yuengling and a little water. Then peel off the top shell, clean out the lungs and guts and all the rest is edible. body sections and legs are filled with some of the best meat you'll find anywhere.

Heres some pics from the steamer to the table. This was the pickins from one of the smaller 6" ones.
