Today I got a couple emails from the breeder I painted that crate for in the August workbench. He emailed me that he had a couple 4 month old pups he might need to place elsewhere. I thought that odd. I'd been meaning to take the crate to him and he doesn't live that far away...so no time like the present.
I just wanted to give him a little something to show my gratitude. When we got there I handed him the crate. He immediately said "that looks like Mya". It made my day hearing him say that. I told him to use it however he wants, throw dummies in it or even birds. He said that he was taking it right into the house and had a place for it inside, it was too nice to use for dummies.
Then while looking at his dogs he said he needed to down size a little because he didn't have time to train the new pups. His wife has some health issues and his life is on hold for the foreseeable future. It is about the same thing that my mother and I had to handle with my father. We could at least sympathize with him.
He had two great looking talented pups, I wish I could have taken the one he wanted to keep close by. Finally got to see his next stud dog to. Maybe next summer I can work in a new pup from that wonderful dog.
We were able to chat and brag a little about dogs but soon we could tell he was worried and needed to go back in.
It's sort of crazy what a little paint on a box can do. It made me happy that he appreciated the gift so much. I think it made him happy that someone was thinking about him and understands a little of what he's going through. It's going to be a tough night getting to sleep...worried about him and memories of my dad swirling through my head.
Just a little thing that I almost didn't do...now I'm so glad I did.
