Several years ago my daughter use to go hunting with me. She wouldn't go dove hunting but, everything else was fair game. As time went by she became a serious piano student and stopped going hunting because she didn't want to injure a finger. She is still serious about the piano but has realized that there is more to life than just piano. She is homeschooled and has always been looking for an organized sport outside of the public schools. This spring she has joined a local youth shooting sports club and is on the trap team. She was a little rusty and her youth model 870 in 20 ga no longer fit. She has moved up to my 870 Wingmaster and started breaking birds this past Saturday.
One of the games they play is big chip. For those who aren't familar two shooters stand side by side. The first shooter calls for the bird and shoots. The second shooter then either shoots the missed target or a big chip from the shot target. If either is hit the first shooter is out. Well, my daughter won the first round of big chip!! I can't tell you how proud I was!! On the way home she mentioned how "her" old 870 shot just as well as those "fancy" dbl barrels!! Of course, later in the day she mentioned how she was going to start saving for a gun of her own.
It looks like I have a "new" hunting buddy!!
