NDR - urns

I've been asked to find as much information as I can about the history and uses of urns. I've found a bit of info, but not all that much. So I decided to come to the gurus of many different subjects and ask y'all if anyone could point me in the right direction. I've found auction sites and such that give a little bit of info at a time, but I would think that somewhere there is information on urns and where they came from and why they're used. They are used to hold dead people, pets, etc. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Probably date from Egyptian tombs where they put the "innards" of the mummy. Probably further back than that too..Have to ask Parks. Just googled up History of urns and saw this page,
