NDR - Wolf Control In Alaska....

The latest issue of "Outdoor Life" has an article on wolves attaching hunters' hounds while bear hunting. If I recall correctly this was in Wisconsin and Idaho where the stories were from. In both cases, unless the wolves were posing a direct threat to you there was nothing that could be done. They were discussing having the state 'reimburse' hunters for lost hounds. The wolves were becoming quite a problem for farmers.

While I don't live in a state where I need to worry about this I'd have a real hard time standing idly by while a wolf mauls my dog only throwing a stick or stone when I have a rifle in my hand (read: I wouldn't).

The only thing I find strange in that story is that it seems someone took a pug for a walk in an area known to have an unafraid wolf. That is one lucky pug if the wolf did drop it, I'm not sure the coyotes around here would do that.
Dumb people everywhere want to make friends with wild animals....too much disney.

City people are City people no matter where the City is located. Juneau has problems with garbage bears more than they have with wolves. The people are just as stupid about them, too.

Game regulations allow for 5 wolves a year in that area by hunting, and the season is open until April 1. However, the area this is happening in is heavily restricted rec area so no hunting or trapping can take place. Think of it as a city park. If you had a gun in your hand you would be in serious trouble on federal property.

What is really funny as well is that it is usually a tourist in the summer walking their little lap dog that get into this kind of trouble with wild animals. Documented event of a lap dog being taken by an eagle happened in Valdez some years ago. Having a resident's dog take

Well that's something I've never seen before. Thanks Ray. That is one fortunate little dog I'd say.

There is a guy who works at my school here that is all excited because he has managed to get a fox to take food from his hand. Isn't that great. He should know better, and maybe I'm wrong, but I bet that fox will be shot before spring by someone thinking it is being aggressive when it follows them home and nips at their mitt.

Maybe we should start a pool on when that wolf will be erradicated?
