Hunting yesterday firing 3inch Winchestor Drylok SuperX #4 & #3's shells the gun wouldn't recyle the next shell. It's relatively new and always cleaned after use. I haven't cleaned the gas cylinder or the piston bushing. Could this be my problem? I bought these 3inch shells some time ago before I realize 2 3/4 shells are more than adequate the way I hunt. I would appreciate suggestions.

Yes,you do need to clean the gas cylinder parts,at least after the season.Carbon cakes up in a damp enviroment.(read,Duck Marsh).See other thread.

Wis,
My 390 is about 10 years old now I believe, and it's been through a LOT. With the dog and Kara-style boats and shallow water, it seems to get wet and muddy and beat up. Last year, I was having cycling trouble culminating in a field hunt with about 40 mallards hovering to my side of the decoys...and me with a single shot then 'click'...ugh. I finally broke down and took it to a gunsmith who opened it up and showed me the broken recoil spring! I fought the gun the whole season, and with a 10 minute fix, it is as good as new (well, it works that way, it looks terrible, scratched, dented rib, missing bead...but it is cycling perfectly again).

look inside the barrel, also--You may have some carbon buildup in two little ports--You can clean by getting some acetylene torch wire cleaners. My 302 occasionally gets a bit stubborn, especially after a week dwon south, with Pb and dirtier powder.
You can access to clean where the piston is housed.

and LUBE your magazine cap well, I had one for 2 seasons always cleaned and one time it
just stuck on...... sheared off the pins had to send it in for repairs.

Whenever my 390 has had cycling issues--when I first got it, and once last year--cleaning the recoil spring and recoil spring tube has fixed it. An enormous amount of dirt, rust and other crap seems to accumulate there.

Thanks George and Shady. With all the suggestions I'll tear the gun down and check everything out.
