Need some wood selection assistance

I want to build a frame style seat for the Aerocraft and I am looking for opinions around the type of wood to use. This will be a simple slat seat but the frame is going to sit on the flat floor of the boat, needs to be lightweight and rot resistant as it will sit in whatever water gets in. It will be painted when its done.

White cedar, white oak, redwood, douglas fir?

Scott:
I imagine that you could construct it outta 1x pine if you sealed it with epoxy and reinforced the areas that are prone to abrasion. Paint it and for get it. That's my 2¢........

The thickness of the slats will determine the wood to use. Thin slats, Hardwood maple, oak. Thicker slats redwood, pine etc. For sealing, thin down linseed oil. Let the linseed oil dry a while and paint with a oil based paint. This will out last everyone here.

That is how I'd do it. Use Boiled linseed oil and paint with FME when dry.

Scott, not sure if you can get it where you live but cypress would be a good choice. Naturally rot and insect resistant, weathers to a silver gray if untreated but can be stained or painted
