Hello, The following will be a rambling post, and perhaps partly viewed as spam. First, I want to thank Mark for his kind words regarding my new book. Over the years I have been very lucky to meet many waterfowlers across the nation. To me, Mark is tops, both as a waterfowler and a person. If I had to select just one person to represent us to the non-hunting public, it would be Mark.
Second, I pull this page up on a regular basis for the simple reason that it deals with hand carved decoys, duck boats and other classic parts of waterfowling. To me, the men and women who use such methods are true duck hunters, not duck shooters. And to me there is a very large difference. To this end, I have never looked at other hunting sites other than Mark's and one devoted to snipe.
As for the possible spam, some of you might recall that a few years back I offered part of the money from sales of my Old Wildfowling Tales books to this site if purchased from it. With my new book I will do this again to a degree. The book is $35 postpaid. If anyone wants a copy at that price I will give $10 to this page. But please make certain you call my attention to that. Or if one doesn't want to do that, I will offer the book for $25 postpaid. I am not taking credit cards anymore due to high bank rates. Books can be ordered from: Sand Lake Press, PO Box 130, Amity, Oregon 97101.
As for the book itself, it is largely made up of my old magazine articles. However, I did write ten new chapters for the book. Since some of these articles are now over 20 years old it is my hope they will be new to some readers.
Also I am offering prints of Dave Hagerbaumer's famous watercolor, Mallard Shooting. I used it on the dust jacket. I am doing this as a fund raiser for Dave, now 90 years old. These prints are priced at $50, and I am giving Dave $45 of that. He has been a very good pal of mine for many years.
Lastly, I was at my house in Sask. this year for six weeks. The hunting was good, but most of the geese were Ross, and young ones. Those poor birds just haven't come to understand that we want to kill them. They are so dumb it quickly becomes just shooting, not hunting. The adult snows were as wary as ever, nearly impossible on some days. On a better note, I did find a canvasback/redhead lake and let me assure you it was very, very good. The main reason for mentioning Sask. is that a friend shot a blue Ross, gave it to me, and I have it here in Oregon. I have a friend in Italy with a large collection of mounted waterfowl, so it will likely end up there. I had heard of blue Ross, but never saw one until now. While there are blueXRoss crosses, I am certain this one is a pure Ross. I would be interested if anyone else on this page has shot or seen a blue Ross.
My best to all of you for this season, and those ahead. Worth Mathewson
