New dog product

I used to try to run upland booties on my hounds, but they hated them and they always fell off.
My dog gets beat up worse when I try to use protective gear than when I don't.
One time I tried a vest. It fit fairly well but was constantly full of crap. Later in the day he got caught on something and it shifted. A short time later when I noticed and adjusted it he had a big area that had been rubbed raw.
A couple years later I tried a skid plate type vest. While it worked better he coincidentally got a rear leg snagged on some barbed wire, tearing off a chunk of skin. After that I just decided to let him run "in the nude". Feet, legs and around the eyes toughen up pretty quickly if they are run enough.

Some folks don't have the luxury of being able to get their dogs out a lot, so the dogs feet never really get toughened up.

There are some places out west that have porus basalt which scours feet raw, or worse, volcanic glass.

On top of these, we get those damned longspine cactus that are really a bad deal.
I used to run my dogs after Huns and Chukar and usually their feet were conditioned enough.

Lots of bagbalm at the end of the day for them to sleep with glooped up feet seemed to help. I saw a guy had his pointer (dog) out too long and had to carry it back slung over his messenger bag. Poor pup.

I can see the boots for the feet being important in places. I'm lucky that I don't really have anything nearby that pokes or cuts.

This is a fashion issue for a hunting dog. The question is will they wear it? Will they refuse unless they get a professional grooming to go with it? A tailor? Will they want a new one every year to keep up with trends? This could get expensive.

I have actually contemplated boots kinda like the front leg ones for Belle. More for the leg protection than foot protection. She is very lightly furred compared to most other setters. She also has the unfortunate luck to be allergic to blackberry thorns. So we hunt and her front legs especially get torn up badly. Like Tim though, I have frequently seen more harm than good with boots if you aren't super careful. And sometimes even when I try to be super careful.

I haven't had issues with her chest plate though.
