New Guy..new duck boat..great to be on the forum

Just finished rebuilding a wood duck boat that was originally built for me by Montana boat builders. Started with a very (too) flat bottom layout rig from MBB but it would not handle Texas winds and water so I rigged a keel/stringer frame, glued it to the bottom and replanked to give the boat more deadrise bow and stern (deeper V)...turned out to be a very fast boat that handles at least 30mph wind and 3 foot sea...which whips up on Texas lakes way too often. As soon as I get trained on digital cameras i will send photos...

My wife says that I built a camo painted, 16' jet ski. Really looking forward to hunting from the boat this Fall, and chasing redfish in skinny water on the Texas coast (I will be waving a flyrod at them).

Great to be on the forum..wish I had been here while I was rebuilding the boat...could have used LOTS of advice...

Welcome aboard Tom,

Sounds liek you solved your boat problem pretty well. Post some pic's when you get a chance, we are all DBA's around here (Duck-Boat-Aholics) and enjoy looking at them. Don't forgrt to fill your boat with decoys anchors to hold it down, Toramdo season is just starting in Texas I see on the news.

Tom,
Where abouts in Texas ya'll at? :)
I've spent a bunch of time bustin' birds in/around San Antonio, Choke Canyon, Pearsall, Beeville & Uvalde....and a couple places I can't remember. The only fish I've waved a fly rod at in Texas were Bass, down at the Covered Gate Ranch in Uvalde.
Be sure to post pics.

in case you were looking for another duck boat. I have a buddy down in San Antonio....moving to Uvalde soon and he has a couple of our boats for sale.....used. I don't have his phone number with me but I can get it for you if you're interested. He has one of our South Bay Scooters and Brant II's....with a trailer that hauls both. There are some pics in the Classified section of my website: www.lockstockbarrell.com

Holler if I can be of an service.

Lou...temorarily in Dallas (for 28 years)...at least it has a good airport. Grew up in Port Arthur...now that is Duck Hunting Heaven...Every weekend if I wanted to hang out with my Dad, it meant a duck blind in the salt marshes near Sabine Pass. Love that place. (if you discount the Apache Blackhawk Mosquitos). I hunt all the lakes in the DFW area and when really hungry, head back to the coast and try for sprig and mallards. That is where I am going to chase redfish. Have a salt bay near Sabine Pass (called Keith's Lake) that gets hot with redfish and spec trout in the Fall...Built (re-built) my boat so that I can get to the tailing redfish....and make it back to parking lot when the wind comes up. I also confess to hunting quail...use a very talented Llewellyn Setter, since the little feathered bees are hard to decoy.

You might get tired of eating fish, but you would have to be a damn fool to starve to death..

Remember fondly the time I used to play Jetty Jockey.
