New (to me) MLB Zack Taylor

Morning gents,

I spent 15 hours yesterday driving to upstate NY to pick up a MLb Zack Taylor sneakbox. A few questions for those of you with more experience since I'll hopefully do this only once. The boat is olive drab. It will be splitting duty in the rivers and bays with being used as a layout boat for eider (using a 22' lobster boat as a tender). I think the base color of the boat needs to be a dull gray for the time spent offshore when it won't be grassed up. What's the best method to paint a fiberglass hull? Any things to watch out for?

Also, do any of you have a good way to grass the boat in a modular fashion to easily switch between ocean and swamp?

I'll be posting the motor for sale if anyone is interested. It's a Scavenger Mud Motor with a Honda 5.5 HP engine. I'll use a Merc outboard I have, much lower profile. I may even try a electric motor to see how it moves.

Match the color to the water you will be hunting. Bunji around the perimiter will hold grass. Fastgrass or similar are the only way I know of to panelize grass...or plastic fence with Ira's grass bundles. It doesn't take much to make a Zackbox disappear. An electric motor scoots them around well and the Merc will do more of the same.

There is a .pdf with complete instructions on painting aluminum or fiberglass boats.

I painted a 16' G3 this summer with the FME and I love it.

Bill: what part of NH are you from I use to build fiberglass BBSB,some still around great bay. I now have a clasic BBSB I built my self painted it with FME,and repainted it with Sherman Williams and holding well under north east gunning condishing. best Bill

I'm in Greenland. Great Bay is almost in my back yard. I bought a boat from someone in Somersworth in the mid-80's, glass BB style. Was that one of yours? I used it out at the Isles of Shoals gunning eider, sold it after a divorce. I'll be taking the Zack out there next fall, unless I can find a way to get my hands on a MLB Super Mag and save the Zack for duty on the Bay. If you find yourself down this way look me up.

Bill,

Sent you an email with photos of an older glass over cedar sneakbox with some grass on the sideboards and the spray shield.

Bill.

I have a MLB sneak also .. To grass it I added a couple of very small eye bolts in strategic locations. I then cut out some plastic snow/construction fencing. I attached thes pieces to the eye bolts and other attachemnet points with zip ties. Then I attached fast grass or any other brand of your choice to the fencing with zip ties.

Now , to change from open water to marsh all I have to do is either cut the zip ties holding the fencing to the boat or reattach them for marsh hunting. Since the grass always stays attached to the fencing it only takes minutes to change. My computer crashed and I am using an old one, but when my regular one is fixed , I can send you pics if you want.

I use paint from lock stock and barrel ( lou ) or from parker paints. I have had good results with both.
