Non Skid Floor Question?

This summer I plan to replace the plywood floor in my 19' Pacific power dory with a slated floor made of deck wood. I considered the new synthetic deck boards, more for a non skid surface then considerations of rot. But they are $20 more per board than treated deck wood boards. The only problem with treated boards is when wet they are mighty slippery, and when iced up they are darn right dangerous.

Does any one have ideas for a non skid slated floor? I have seen that black contact tape that looks like sandpaper, but I don't know where to purchase it, how wide it comes, and how well it sticks, given the conditions of duck hunting.

Thanks for any help.

Why not use a interlocking floor matting like dri-dek? Non slip as all get out, and the great thing is ice doesn't build on it, water freezes, then just powders off and falls through. Over top a planked flooring it woudl be real nice. It is great for the dogs too, they have secure footing.

Dri-dek is top of the line stuff, I have a similar product that was distributed by Ace hardware that I dont' think they sell anymore. Home despot has some in the carpet area, I bought a case and it is the same molds as the prtoduct that I have, but is more brittle and didn't last as well. To do it again, I'd go with the dri-dek, I got some samples and it is very nice.

With the floor being slated, I want to stay away from total floor coverage. I plan to have the slats, two paint sticks thick. This will make it easier to bolt down the boom for the layout and take it out for fishing

Went out the other day with a fellow who had the Dri-Deck. No problems with a slippery deck and no foot or leg ache after the hunt. I will definitely get some for my boats. Stuff is easy to remove if you need to.

Just my opinion,
Harry

dri-dek would go over the slats, for non slip. It woudl work great over slats if the gaps were small, like 1/4" or so.

Mike, this may be a long shot for you but consider it. I am a fireman and I got ahold of some fibreglass hose decking from an old pumper. I gave it to my buddy who uses it as his floor. It has a non skid surface. It works awesome. It is slatted to allow for water drainage...............Kevin

I like to use Pettit non-skid paint additive. I have used it on the plywood floor of my fishing boat for years. Use Pettit clear sealer and good quality top coat paint. Just put some paint in a roller tray and add some non-skid and role it on. Also, I use it on deck of my duck and layout boat to give a dull and non slip finish.

just add some sand to your paint when you paint the deck or better yet add pigment to polyester resin add sand and never replace your deck again.

My boats exterior is painted with sand added to paint, however normally just paint my flooring with linseed oil. Never tried to add sand to the oil and let it dry. Don't believe that will work, so perhaps I'll have to paint the boards this time.

I used Tuff Coat in the floor of my boat third year of use and it has held up great so far.
