Non Skid paint

I picked up supplies today to redo the floor in my BBSB which will be the first thing I redo later in the spring when the mosquitos come out and I quit trying to take pictures. Not sure if I will seal the wood with west system but I definitely want to finish with a dark or camo color paint that will be non skid. The only idea that I have is to try to mix sand into the paint but have never tried this.

Because of our big tidal rise and drop, I often have to step down a few feet to get back into the boat after adjusting the boats lines to shore etc.

Please advise any methods that have worked.

Many thanks -

You can buy it through marine supplyers or just go to home depot. They have small bags of it. I believe it is called polyolafin. It works much better then sand as it soaks up the paint where sand won't. I have used it with gelcoat and regular paint with good results.

Sarge,I used Grizzly-grip on my bb3 they have a wide variety of colors, its like a bed liner/paint stuff,so far so good with it,hope this helps Brian Rippelmeyer

I just mixed in well a cup or so of sandblasting sand into a gallon of paint and brushed it on. It mys be the finest sand you can get, I tried coarse stuff and it just clumped. Fine sand and a power mixer on a drill. Works great!!!!!!!!!

I tried the sand in the paint on the deck of my flat bottom boat, didnt much care for it. When I built my Gator duck hunter last summer I used Herculiner truck bed liner, really like it... tough finish, lots of grip, and extra sealing.

Guys - Thanks very much - looks like I have a couple good options instead of plain sand which I thought might not be so good but didn't have a clue what else to consider. This has to be the most helpful group in America !

thanks again -

Dick,
One more pitch for the silica sand idea. One boat I painted a coat and then while still wet covered the deck with sandblasting sand. Swept it off and then gave it another coat. That worked great too. Just remember to use the finest sand you can get, the coarse stuff clumps up and looks very bad.
