Northern Flight vs. Beaver tail

I am looking for information as to whether anyone has had both a Northern Flight blind and a Beavertail blind and which do you prefer and why. We currently have the Northern Flight but it will need new grass for next year. But my son wants to change blinds instead.

The Beavertail covers you better, especially with the top kit. The Northern Flight sets up a little quicker. The beavertail is very nice to hunt from but I feel the Cabelas is easier if you hunt with a dog.

I love my Beavertail but there is one thing I've never seen anyone complain about (except me in my head). The Beavertail folds to one side. If you are out in the right conditions with freezing spray, it could be dangerous with all that ice building up on one side. I had to stop and break it up once on a yucky day on Lk. Champlain a few winters ago. Great blind otherwise.

The blind in the photo is a modified northern flight but the fabric is Mud Buddy Shaggy Pro material with some 'Killer Weed' mixed in. After putting together several boat blinds over the years it appeared to me the issue they all had was lack of texture. You can have a pretty camo pattern but they typically shine in the sunlight and 'beat' with any substantial wind. This has been the most successful boat blind so far. The low profile of the sneak boat is still way better but if you need a boat blind I think this is the way to go. I called Mud Buddy and ordered the fabric only. Fabric was mounted using self drilling screws and each screw hole was melted through fabric with soldering iron,

Please understand I'm not a shill for Mud Buddy - I just happen to like the stuff. Down sides are - not cheap, only one source, only comes in certain sizes, shipped from Utah.

This is one of my outboard covers. Note Killer weed mixed in. As most camo is too dark I only used the lighter shades of Killer Weed.
Have fun

I have owned a northern flight and it was a good blind. I looked at the beavertail but ended up buying a mud buddy shaggy blind. ( both about same cost) the reason I did not purchase the beavertail is the material has a bit of a shine to it. I was concerned this "shine" would flair ducks. The shaggy has worked well for me. Just my opinion.

I have a beavertail. I got the optional dog door and had it sewn in. It flips up pretty fast, but the shock cord that stretches across e corners of the boat requires you to be a contortionist to get all four corners stretched out. I plan to rig a pole with a special hooks end to put the corners on.

I also plan to eventually get the optional top. It was easy to assemble.

I will say that I am uncertain if I would get the beavertail again. I don't have any great reasons why. Just feel like I could create something as effective that is a little less boxy.
