NY Youth Hunt

I took my son out Sunday with the hopes he might be able to get some ducks and I got to say I'm one proud papa . We got into this spot and right away started seeing birds over head and on the water. The first two birds came in and landed a little too far for his 20ga so we just let them sit there in hopes they would bring in some more, but they didn’t . After a few minutes of them leaving we had a single fly a few circles before she decided to land about 20yds from us. I had him slowly stand up in the boat and I told him as soon as the bird jumped to pull the trigger and that’s just what he did, dropped her stone dead in her tracks. After the retrieve another one came in and we tried it all over again this time however he missed with two shots. About a half hour later this tiny little rocket came out of nowhere and landed about 30yds away from the boat. He gets up jumps her and one shot and she's back on the water stone dead. That was pretty much the end of the birds flying so we decided to call it a morning and go grab some breakfast. He ended up shooting a hen mallard and a hen green wing teal. The really awsome thing here is those were the two first birds I killed 23 years ago on my first hunt, what are the odds ? Now I cant wait untill the regular season gets here so we can lay the smack down on them togater with Uncle Anthony.

Nice story Joe. Nothing better than a father/son hunt, that's where the youth hunting days shine the brightest. Great shooting to your son, two birds with just four shells is excellent!

Joe, that is one precious picture of your son. Have to love it! Great story of his success and you have all the right in the world to be "one proud papa". I agree with you-----what are the odds for him scoring like you did in 87? Now you have me looking forward to more pictures from this upcoming season.

Those first few father and son hunts are the most memorable. Glad to see you passing on the love of duck hunting to another generation. Cherish those times because they go by all too fast. Congrats to the both of you!!

Joe,

Word has it...your little guys shoots better than his Daddy!LOL Great pic Joe...see you this weekend. Took my niece out, but she missed on a few left to right teal flyers. Still had a great time though.
