Had One come through earlier and missed him. Had 7 geese land just out side those willows there and missed them. Had a flock of what I thought where Gadwalls come in and hit a hen Mallard.
Then 4 Cans come screaming by and bank around, drop there landing gear and start there approach,
Picked out the whitest belly and you can see the rest of the story! After the celebrating we called it a day!

The second trophy duck of this season, the taxidermist is excited!

NICE! Thats a sweet bird, great pics. I'm surpried you had the composure to take that pic of him in the water. My first bull can I was doing the happy dance till Earl got him back to me. Congrats!

Craig, That is one nice bird. That would make anyones day. Congrats and thanks for sharing the pics.

Guys if any of you want to shoot Cans come to pool 9 their so thick it's aggravating their landing in the decoys as were setting up or picking up . A real problem LOL

Nice Bull!

Pat,

That is absolutely the worst problem to have...Cans buzzing you like that...Must be nice to pick the bird of choice...

Regards,

Kristan

Way to go Craig! I took one today as well... I never thought I would say that I am sick of Cans.... Actually I am not.. but they are lighting into my decoys by the 20's and while it is beautiful... I do want to hunt.....

Nothing like a Chessie with a Can!

We sat in the boat and just looked at it for some time before I sent Belle to go get him. Its funny I was shaking afterwards, "Can Fever"

chit. you get cans in Iowa. There suppossed to be east coast birds. who's screwin up the migration. ....... Nice job ..I'm jealous

I don't see why we can only take one a day ' they outnumber everything 10 to 1

Funny that you say that. Ive seen one in my 19 years of waterfowl hunting. Although we are plagued with the coutless black ducks and the 1 bird limit on them as well.

Pretty bird and nice lookin pup too.

Funny, here on the Columbia we have the same problem but, with pintails. We have thousands every year. Flocks all day in some areas to the point you feel like a birdwatcher somedays. It is no great accomplishment to shoot a nice bull spriq with a long pin, especially in December and January.

Well its funny but i can say the same for the pintails too. Only seen one drake while hunting and he came by 100mph while picking up decoys. I have seen a large migrating flock almost every year on the seaside here but never lower that 400ft and only passing through the salt marsh.

I love it.
It is great to have a look at a guy's great day afield.
& an eager dog bringing back a fine bull Canvasback.

I believe that in our human lives,
a guy gets a few great triumphant moments.

Some are at graduation
some are at the birth of a child, or upon a successful hunt for game.
Some are upon marriage.

I never graduated
but am enamored in the notion that this place is where we can see the best of the best.

Best story makers
best carvers,
Photo shootists,
best boatmen (and women)

and the pure good things that the outdoors has allowed us all to share.

Now I need to go polish my decoys up.
