Okay, I needed another hobby like a hole in the head...lanyard making...

I got a MOMBO duck call from Dave Larson last winter, but it wouldn't fit on the cheapy spring lanyards, much less look respectful. Got the itch to make one of my own, didn't look to overly complicated. Stopped at the surplus store on the way home from work and picked up some paracord:

Decent for my first IMHO. Kind of fun too...I see another black hole for my free time...

I think I need a bigger goose call, because next to that duck call it looks miniature :)

you made a nice string that is for sure. Pulling string for $$$ can be a PITA it gets old real quick and the blisters/callouses are not worth it much. When I worked nights in the ER I would make lanyards by the pile. When I went to days my time at home with my multitude of other hobbies was more important.

thanks Tom. I don't see myself doing them for money, but it was neat to make, and I could see doing a couple more. I forgot to add the one missing element....a dozen or so bands. Got to get over on E-Bay and start bidding on some...hehe

Like Tom said, it gets old quickly. I used to make them and sold a bunch, also gave some to a few guys in my hunting club. Unless you are really THAT bored, it's not worth the time. It is pretty cool to see your buddies using the ones you made though.

Looks great Chuck. I made exactly one for myself and was happy after that not to make any more.

I made this one last year. Didn't realize how much cord it would use up. Had to splice more in half way through. I also turned the call on the bottom last year simple walnut barrel with an echo insert. Luke

Yeah, takes a lot of cord. I edited the link on my above post and it seems to work now, but it says to use 90 feet for the tying cord. However, I did this and had quite a bit extra, going to measure it when I get a chance, but haven't yet. But it woudl suck to be 3/4 done and run out of cord too.

rule of thumb, to my macrame memory is about ten feet of cord per foot of stuff tied---Longer is you get into things like horizontal half hitches, alternating square knots, and you can do picots and add beads or small duck bands between knot sets!
