Changing the water pump on the ubiquitous 80's vintage 15 hp johnson outboard... Any special tricks with this motor?

Todd, Nothing comes to mind for that one. Just as an example I carry a new used impeller for my 25 in the boat and could change it on the spot. Any problems just give a shout.

Thanks Tom, I usually don't have a problem with stuff that goes back together in the same order and same way it comes apart.

Tod, does your shift shaft come apart behind the little screen dealies? If it does, make sure you remove the screw on each side before trying to remove them..experience...also the lower nut on the shift shaft has to be held in place while the top nut turns off and on..if you spin the lower nut you unscrew the shaft from the shift dog in the lower..that sucks...experience.

No clue on this particular motor, but does that have one of those stupid "Jesus clips" otherwise known as "Jesus, where the hell did that damn thing spring to" on the shaft?

Changed my '80 evinrude 35 HP and the damn spring clip flew about 20 feet away under the furnace, it was a real treat. I don't think I could change it in a marsh...

Lee,

I haven't looked at the motor and it isn't here. You are right, my main concern is not messing up the shift linkage. The most recent motor I did was my yamaha and some reccomend shifting into forward to bottom out the linkage and taking ti apart that way. I will pay attention to the bottom nut and keep it in place and just turn the top.
