One last time...

...I hope. The winter that never ends hasn't yet.
I wasn't going to blow snow but it ended up being heavier then I had thought it would be. The forecast shows 60s and maybe 70 this weekend. This really needs to be the end. It's great moisture but it is going to take a toll very soon. I saw a lot of swallows flying around yesterday while it was around 45, I have no idea what they will find to eat for a while. I saw a bat a couple weeks ago but I'm sure it went back to sleep for a while.

Tim,
I could not agree more. That last system dumped another foot here an the winds were brutal. I understand that new system you just had is rolling in here tonight. I feel so bad for the deer herd here we are feeding corn and I just picked up another 160 lbs or it today. We have close to 30 whitetails every morning waiting for me to get back from putting the kids on the bus so they can get there daily allowance of corn. They bed right here on the property now and seldom leave. I can't being to imagine how bad it is in the deer yards this year at this point if they could handle ingesting corn I would snowshoe it in but I am told that their systems can't handle a switch from browse to corn like that they have to have been eating it all along in the winter. Not sure if its true or if the biologists just don't want people to start and stop feeding them on a whim. They should have been able to access food two weeks ago at the latest by now.

My Son lives in Custer, in the SW corner of your fine state.

He texted me this evening to "brag" about his foot of snow.

We don't generally get a lot of snow this time of year over here in NE Ohio, but we sure get more than our share of rain and cloudy days.

You can keep it!

Jon

Now that does look like the very heavy---wet stuff. I remember when that system blew through here, Tim. We could not see the mountain ranges because there was so much dirt and dust flying about in the air.
I just got an email from Paul, who was flying to Calgary. He sent me a picture of the area of Saskatchewan they were flying over and it was totally snow covered and all lakes were frozen.
Yesterday, it was 88F here and it marked the first time ever that Bev and I had to turn on our swamp cooler in April.
After seeing your picture, it makes me think of the Red River and now I'm wondering how Fargo will be doing this year?

That is some serious slop to sling right there.

I put the snowblower on the tractor one last time yesterday and used it - used it to push around a pile of soil I needed to spread. :). I needed to put the blower on the tractor anyway since I needed to move it for summer storage so I figgured I could try to do some minor earth moving with it like a dozer blade - it actually worked well. I thought about engaging the PTO, but was glad that I didn't hook it up since I may have tried it. Now I have to wash the snowblower before putting it away :(.

Did the stuff you planted come up or has it been too cold/snowy?

To make you feel better here in West Central Mo I just saw snow flakes. People were finding morels this weekend and now it is snowing. I had to mow my yard yesterday, with a jacket on!!

Brandon,
Not quite the same scale but there is a rabbit that has learned to climb up on the deck to get at the bread and seeds I've put out for the birds.

Jon,
I just heard it got down to 2 in Custer brrrrr... Rapid City had the snowiest month in history, they needed it out there. Now it just needs to melt so the turkeys don't take a big hit.

Al,
I will be shocked if Fargo doesn't flood. It is suppose to be 70 up there on Sunday. It is going to go fast.

Tod,
Nothing up yet. The dirt was very dry before this all started so it needed the moisture and it hasn't been warm enough yet between the snows. The lettuce and greens seeds should be fine.

Tom,
Between the snows our grass has been greening up. I'm sure there will be the sounds of mowers in only a week here. Crazy spring.. winter... whatever it is now.

Tim

My buddy was out in SD last week turkey hunting.

Got a nice merriams with his bow in a FOOT of snow!

Never seen a hero shot of a spring turkey in the snow before.
