The tides turned, and as Jon Yenni pointed it could only go up this week.
Two days ago we saw hoards of buffleheads, bluebills, scoters, Ruddies, and a few cans. The stayed wide and went into a cove out on the great bay. We filled the morning with a few dippers and a hen bluebill, which was special to me. A while back I made a bunch of decoys, and we used these almost exclusively.
Today the trend continued. We pulled on our big boy pants and launched at daybreak due to the small craft flag flying high, for good reason. After a wet ride my half right homemades were deployed along with Bull, the traveling decoy on the "x".
The big ducks did not move, but the buffleheads, which are special to me despite the opinion of some that feel they are not worthy, cooperated beautifully. I can only remember once or twice in my life that I had constant action so fast and furious. Feet down and wings set, it was a spectacular show. We limited out on 12 Drake Buffies in a very short period of time as the bay became angry.
Compared to my first day-
I figured out a work around on the motor, so it only stalled ten times or so
I felt great this morning, for the fist time this week.
With the help of spring clamps and zip ties, the blind now only waves lie a flag, rather than flapping like a bird.
We loaded the boat without incident, bruises or broken bones.
Bull looks great in my spread, and I will be sad to part with him.
Today is one of those few days that makes it all worth it. I bet I saw fifty birds land in my hand carved decoys in two hours.
I have some tailgate shots, but can't get them up on my iPhone. Hopefully I can get them added later.
