Opinions on 6 inch jointers?

I have had great performance from the Ridgid 6" jointer available at Home Depot. I have had mine for over 12 years and have never been disappointed with it.

There are some reviews on YouTube that speak well of it also.

I have used a couple of Grizzly, Jet and Delta models as well. None performed amazingly better than this Ridgid for the price.

Jay, I can't speak for their jointers personally, but I know grizzly makes a hell of a tool for the price. I have a grizzly bandsaw with nothing but good things to say. All my future power tools will most likely be grizzly. I think Jode has one actually maybe be will chime in about it.

If you are in an area where they have the mobile tools sales that come around. Check them out. I bought a professional quality Delta 6 inch cabinet base for less than I could buy a Grizzly or an open base Delta. It was the exact same model used in a furniture shop I worked in. I think I paid $200.00

Jay,

In my opinion the Powermatic Model 50 (6") is the best. It was made from the late '50's until about 2002-3. It has a better fence than any of the aformentioned models. I have owned a Powermatic Model 60 for twenty years. It is my favorite 8" jointer of all time. One of my favorite things about the machine is it's fence, and, they used the same fence, size and all on the smaller 50. I picked a Model 50 up in Winchester, TN for a friend who won it on GovDeals. I think he payed $250 for it. They are around but will require a bit of looking. The problem with a 6" machine is that everybody I know who has or had them wants an 8". And then a 12"!. Though I love and use my 8" for 90% of my jointing, I jumped at the opprtunity to buy a 16" Newman a few years back. It is in the restoration queue, perhaps this fall. Now if I could just find a 24".
