im considering using this product on an aluminum boat. would you reccomend it? i was thinking of applying it to the inside of the hull bottom before i replace the floor to avoid any paint adhesion problems on the outside of the hull bottom. this will be used on an older starcraft riveted boat. any comments/suggestions are appreciated. thanks, mark

I've used Gluv it on all three of my layout boats, and I feel it is an excellent product! It has provided excellent protection to the surface of boats.

In your application, you are putting it over aluminum, and I am not sure how well that would work. I don't think you would be pleased with it in that situation, because it has about an 8 hour open time, and as you paint it on the curves of the hull, most of it will wind up in the bilge. You might be able to get small 1 lb containers, and put it on a thin application at a time. On my layout boats, I flipped them over, so I was dealing with a flat surface and put it on pretty fat.

You carving?

Best,
Steve

I used it on the outside of my 14 V-hull. It stopped the leak, painted up well, and is very abrasion resistant. It's a good product but I'd use it on the exterior.
Stripping the hull down to the aluminium was the hard work.

thanks guys, i appreciate the info. still undecided on this as i dont want to strip paint off on the exterior. guess ill do a float test and see if i have any problems to begin with.

steve, i havent been carving. im hoping to get started again soon. there is alot of projects in my head. how about you? best, mark

Mark,

I have used it on the bottom of a drift pram. I wouldn't use if for that purpose again. It has handled rocks and everything else well but it is failing I bleive due to the flex on the bottom of the boat. The boat has been used hard...launched over banks, drug over guard rails, etc. and the product has been on for about 9 years so I shouldn't complain. With that said when I strip it off and replace it I will be looking for something a bit different.

Rereading your post you want to put something on the inside of the hull to avoid adhesion problems on the outside of the hull? I am not quite following what you are trying to accomplish, but if you are covering the inside of the hull I would think there would be much cheaper and as effective alternates.

My best,

Don
