Outboard Electrical Help

Gents,

Need your assistance working on my electrical start with a '73 25hp Evinrude.

I am not getting an clicks or any sign of "life" with the push of the switch.

Battery is fully charged and jumping the battery straight to the starter will start the motor, so the starter is good.

I thought the solenoid was my issue but took it into a shop today and when we hooked it up to power and a different starter it worked.

Makes me think I either have a ground problem or perhaps have some wires crossed on the solenoid when connecting the starter switch. I show 12 volts coming into the solenoid but again no clicking when the starter button is pushed.

2 wires coming from the push button one I have going to the small post (other small post is the ground). The other wire is going to the bottom large post.

What am i missing? Anything else I should be trouble shooting?

Appreciate the help again

I took that ground wire off and just have it grounded to metal to make sure that was not the issue.

I show 12 volts coming in on the top post and jumping power to the top post right from the battery starts the motor.

I went back retested, I am not getting any voltage through the switch or on the bottom post.

How can i test if my switch is the problem?

Agreed with the switch, it has happeneed to me. They do fail to corrision and once they do out of luck. Also had issues with ground last year doing the same. Either case it is no that expensive. Good luck.

After some more tinkering found the ground cable connection to the switch that won't allow starting while in gear wasn't great. Fixed that issue it clicked once or twice and now I get nothing again.

did you try jumping the switch to see if it is the switch? Thanks for this tread by the way when I looked st my motor to give you ideas I found some bad connections on my switch.

I did jump the switch and originally that worked and got the switch working. Thanks for the help everyone. Headed on vacation for two week so will reinvestigate after that.
