Outboard motor question, advice sought

I have been considering a build of a Devlin Scaup and have read a number of comments here in the forum that having the motor prior to building is important. I understand that reasoning and so I've been looking around for a good used 40hp outboard. What I am finding with 40hp motors, is that most of them have remote steering controls and I want a tiller control. Is conversion from remote to tiller controls possible? Does it make sense from a cost/benefit point of view or should I continue to search and find a motor with tiller controls?

Thanks and I appreciate the feedback.

You can make the conversion but it may be easiel and more cost effective to just get a tiller motor

You can open up your search to 50's too if you do the USCG backyard boat builders HP calculation and it comes out okay - that will give you some flexibility too.

I dont' have it anymore either. I did the calcualtions for the snowgoose after I built and had the motor and would have chosen differently had I done it earlier.
