paint on a layout blind

I picked up one of the Cabela's low end fold up layout blinds on sale, it won't get used a lot so I went cheap. the one I got is the all brown because I did not think the factory camo patterns would have blended in where I will use it. So my thought is - get the brown and add my own touches to it. there are loops to add real stuff so i am adding a back drop.

the question is- has anyone painted one of these cloth layouts? I am thinking of taking some samples of the foliage/ground cover from where I will use it to Home Depot and getting paint to match and wondered if any here had advice on the type of paint to use on this corudra type of fabric?

its either that or the standard spray can sets of camo color.

any suggestions?

In the past I used Krylon Camo colors to paint my layout blind. It only gets used a few times a year and ha held up just fine.

I've used the both the Krylon and the Rustoleum flat camo rattle cans on my canoe. Both are OK--they'll adhere better to your canvas than my plastic canoe.

You would also use flat house paint. We painted our house with Behr's flat paint from Home Depot in a neutral olive color, and it's flat enough that I'll use the leftovers next time my sculler needs a touch up. (Wife says next time we need a brighter color for the house.)

If you're going to brush up the blind, I'm not sure paint will make much difference so long as the existing color is neutral and flat.

I attended one of Fred Zink's seminars at Cabelas a few years ago. One subject he covered was using Krylon Fusion to in the tan color to put just a light dusting of paint on the cordura. Not to paint it as much as to get some paint on the cordura to get the mud to stick. If you try to mud a non-painted cordura ground blind, it will bead off the water and mud. Mud sticks to the paint. Camoflage pattern on most ground blinds can be considered a moot point under most circumstances. You grass them up to make them disappear. The mudding step keeps the cordura from shining through in voids in the grassing.

thanks for the replies - sounds like mud and foliage should be enough, i was just looking to have a base that broke up the outline.
