Painting the Hen Canvasback...

In keeping with simplicity, the hen canvasback got painted today. I try to keep my paint jobs 1 hour or less to keep them in the realm of a true gunning decoy. I trim the boar hair bristle brushes I use half round to make a scalloped feather. Feathering this hen took less than 5 minutes. I also do the dry brushing of the white with it. The primer coat is flat black Rustoleum. The base coats are Sherwin-Williams exterior latex. I stain the bottoms with some Mini-Wax 224 Special Walnut then seal it with 2 coats of Spar Varnish. The eye's in her are some Herter's black hatpin eyes. She's just about ready to float.

Pat,

That's "Keep'n It Stupid Simple." Something I'm still trying to do, LOL! Nice work. On a side note, I was lucky enough to buy one of your cork drake Canvasbacks from the G & S auction house and I find myself admiring that paint job everyday.

Cool deal David! Hope all is well in the great state of Michigan. Say hello to Pauly for me if you see him. God bless! Pat

Yep, that is certainly subtle and simple,Pat. Good capture of the essence of the decoy on that one!!
God bless--Put westlake in your plans next year, fella!

George - Thanks for the kind words. Next year our youngest would be in college and, your spring break would fall the same time as Westlake. I hope to be there next year and see you... God bless! Pat
