Parker Paint

Quick Question...

My friend from Long Island tells me that a lot of guys his way use Parker to paint their boats. I know they used to make a color called, "Duck Boat Brown," and that was a lot of guy's go-to color. It's what he used on his boat and I like the way it turns out, but it's looks like they've changed the names. Are we confusing with some other brand?

If it was Parker, what would be the new color name? I have a feeling MARSH GRASS is the color that's comparable to Duck Boat Brown, just wanted to double check.

Thanks,
Kevin

The hunter green was closer to the duck boat color. I think the marsh grass is much lighter. My boat is marsh grass and it is the color of the dead salt hay during the winter. The hunter green is like a dark marsh mud color. I would say the hunter green is the best all around choice

Now that any decent paint store can match any paint, in any finish (satin/flat/semigloss/whatever), in a good name brand oil paint so a hunter can match any local condition I'm not sure how Parker stays in business.

Kevin - I am biased as are a lot of the guys here but for good reason. We all found what I think its the most durable marine paint out there in Lou Tisch's Flat Marine Enamel (FME) You paint it on and forget about it. I have a boat with 8 year old FME that looks like it did the day it was painted. I have painted all of my decoys with it and same deal.

Check out www.lockstockbarrell.com and/or www.eallendecoys.com

They used to make a color they called Dead Grass Green and it was an ok color but it fell off at the slightest bump. I painted and repainted my old Marsh Pig with it.
Next paint I use will be Lou's FME.
Best,
Harry

I don't know about Parker paints, but I have used Petit Dull Dead Grass #3303 and it blends in with the marsh banks pretty good. They also have a Duck boat brown # 3305. I have used both but prefer the color of the Dead dull grass for hunting the south shore of LI and the paint holds up well. You should be able to pick it up at any marine supply store.

Many of the guys building boats on the board have went with Lou's FME. If you dont find what your looking for give him a shout and see what color he has that matches. He must of spent an hour with me on the phone when I was ordering paint for my BBIII. I just could not make up my mind. He is a great guy to deal with.

Don't buy parker boat paint, I repeat, Don't buy parker boat paint.

Last year went cheap and painted my boat with their paint, and now it needs to be repainted. There is no "toughness" to their paint.

This summer I will be sanding off the rest and repainting the boat with Lou's FME, I know two people that have used his paint, and having seen/heard how well it holds up, I won't use anything but going forward.

Lesson learned the hard way.

I thank each and every one of you for your input. Actually, I have used Petit's "Dull Dead Grass" on my aluminum v-hull for the last 8 years and I'm quite familiar with it. I guess I figured there was something better out there. Last September when I bought it, I paid $26/qt, then my buddy pointed me towards Parker and I saw it was $34 gal... Thanks for the heads up, I'll be ordering through Lou. Now, I've gotta figure out what color off his chart.... JEEEEEZ!!!

Much appreciated,
Kev
