Ok, this is really picture heavy but I thought a few on here may appreciate, and this bird has taken ducks this season.
Last Thursday I was able to spend the day with a falconry friend. The sport is intensely governed and about the only advantage they have over gun hunting in this part of the country is the length of their season which is a little longer than the gun season.
The weather has conspired against us on numerous occassions this winter and this was only the second time I was able to get out and chase him with my camera. To say the least I was not disappointed.
His bird is a captive bred peregrine, the quarry were late-season NW Iowa ringnecks:
We worked both of his dogs, but I was only able to shoot some good ones of Belle:
The first bird was a hen (legal for the falcon):
Close, but not a success:
Another opportunity?
I'm going to post this entire series as I think it is truly impressive:
SUCCESS!!!!
Oh, and for the record I like the Canon 40D 100-400 combination. The faster frames per second obviously helped here and I'd say the focus was ok. The capture scenes, while not exceedingly sharp were handheld at a considerable distance.
Thanks,
Joe
