Pimping ducks??

I've been hanging out at the Taxidermy.net site trying to sell that wolf rug I've got, and I'm surprised at some of the stuff on offer there. This guy seems to be selling a frozen redhead, someone else is selling black bear claws,... I thought you couldn't sell migratory birds or parts thereof?

I wonder what Mac's eagle feather collection would be worth? : )

Dave Algrehn is from Blue Shadow Game farm, if I remember correctly, and he is selling pen raised birds. He's a good guy, I think I've done business with him in the past. Didn't find the black bear claws, but if you hunt a black bear, you could probably gift the claws to somebody, and somebody could gift you what you want. A different possibility is that they are reproductions.

Tell Mac to keep his eagle feather collection- i've heard of people getting busted for that very act on that website, and if you mention something like you have eagle feathers, everybody will be all over you butt asking if you have permits, if you're native american, they won't even consider that you live in Canada. That's why I'm moving to the Yukon someday, or B.C. so I can live in peace and start a sweet collection of natural items/feathers and not get arrested for it.

Ya but how does the buyer know it was farmed? I'll sell you a "farmed" Harlie if you can give me a few months to go out and fetch him.

I was just joking about the eagle feathers too Chris. Remember we were talking about that a while back.

If you want to come up some time I bet you could find a job your first day. Everybody is shorthanded up here this last year or so. There are help wanted signs everywhere. The boom in Alberta has sucked us dry of workers at all levels.

Haha... I'll buy a farmed harlie... If you advertise that you'll get about $300 for one... I'm serious... =)

I do remember our eagle feather discussion... that's neat they're so common and it's legal for you to have them. Gotta take some pics of them for me- remember?

The buyer usually knows it's farmed- he is a reputable guy who advertises there a lot, a bunch of taxidermists buy deceased birds from him pretty often- so I bet he's just loosened up posting all the info he used to.

Hope that wolf rug sells,

What do they pay? Apparently the Alberta money is worth the move. I thought migratory bird mounts could only be sold if they were pen raised and certified as such.

I totally forgot to take any pictures. Some of them are becoming writing quills now that my kids have discovered Harry Potter. We went back to the Osprey roost last summer and found not a feather. Weird. We saw the birds again, but couldn't find the roost they were using. Did I show you this picture from two summers ago?

I think pen raised brids have to have a toe clipped off when they hatch or something like that? Anyone know for sure?

That's a LOT of Osprey feathers! Jeesh!

Do they smell? All the fish hawk feathers I've found have had a small fishy damp odor to them.

Looks like you found almost a whole summer's molt- and Mac's got them separated nicely into primaries, secondaries, tail feathers. Sweet!
