pit blind ideas

Looking to sink a two man pit in a spot in the marsh. I know there are commercial units out there and am not opposed to buying one,but since this is a site where we all make things ourselves, has anybody built one from plywood and glass? What weight cloth would I use ? Glass inside and out? Just wondering. Pics would help.

I helped build a wood one for a field a few years back. Rather than make it waterproof it had what was the equivalent of a sump well under one corner. A trap door was used to access. It allowed limited drainage during use and a good way to pump it completely dry when flooded. Not sure that would work in the marsh as it would fill back up from under the floor. No matter what, you should come up with a way to pump the water lower than the floor. Maybe a raised floor with a pump hole?

Wood was sealed and painted using epoxy. Size was cozy for three men, maybe 4X8 and 5' deep. Bench seat slid on side rails allowing you to face front or back. Had shell shelves front and back. Lid was a sliding setup allowing it to slide forward or back as much as you wanted to allow for shooting. One end had a simple ladder above the seat rail to allow less flexible folks to climb out. We typically dressed the "hole" in the top with corn stalks or straw to partially cover it. We tried to keep it as far closed as possible when birds were working. It served us many years and was later replaced with a similar rig that was welded steel instead of wood. That steel box was always a very cold hunt!

Through the years I have hunted out of wood pits, concrete, metal, a plastic bulk tank cut and buried, and 55 gallon barrels that were sunk in the ground. I am sure you could glass up a wood blind and sink it. If it is a wet spot you will need to anchor it to keep it from floating.

Thanks guys for the good suggestions. What other containers have been used for pit blinds? I've hunted out of the Rubbermaid 175 gallon troughs staked in and a board across for a seat.
