planning a hunting trip.

A few of my hunting partners and I are planning on loading up a couple duck boats and heading to either canada or S. Dakota this winter for 4 or 5 days. I don't need honey holes (unless you want to tell me... LOL), just would like a general area to start looking. Any help would be great. May be able to work out a hunt trade or something. Not an outfitter, just public land or whatever...

First off, it is way too late to plan any waterfowl hunting in South Dakota for this season. South Dakota has permit only hunting for waterfowl for nonresidents and your application needs to be sent in several months ago. Secondly call or write the respective Department of Natural Resources in the places you are thinking about. OR even go on line. They all have a lot of info. and many have maps of the areas that are open to the public. There is a lot of research to be done that can only be done by you.

Way to go Jacob, thats the kind of Hunter/fisherman that I am, pack er up and hit the road and you'll find the game when you get there. I see that your in Illinois which means that if you were going to Canada you'd probably pick Ontario or Manitoba. I'm way down here in New Brunswick so I can't help you out much on those provs other than you need permission prior to entering any private land. Which is different than here in NB where the onus is on the landowner to post his land if he wants to restrict access. In NB if there is no sign or gate then you can go there and hunt.
