Please don't laugh...

at my homemade blind! It cost me $5 in fittings to make, the 1/2 inch conduit was free! I'm a poor man who's trying to make a house payment and finish a basement.

I drilled 7/8 in. holes and threaded a 3/4 male thread x 1/2 in. slip fitting around the boat. These are what the vertical poles will slip into, nothing will be glued for ease of disassembling.

The vertical poles will have camo netting zip tied to them so they can be rolled up each time.

All you have to do is unroll each side, stick the poles into the adapters that are attached to the boat, put in the top pieces to hold each side and tie them together. I will throw a piece of camo burlap over the top with shooting holes cut out and use natural vegetation to touch up the netting each time.

I usually just throw in my layout blind and hunt from shore or island and hide the boat far away but this will give me more options for now.

Xena outgrew her blind so I made it a little bigger. I only use it when I'm in my layout. Sorry, it was dark out and I wasn't very steady.

This is the beast that pushes my meager rig. The Johsnon 6 hp.

Ok...now you can laugh. It's not much, but it's all I've got. I used to spend $1,500 a year to join a club in Warden, WA by Potholes, but I was single. Now I own a home and have a kid on the way!

Looks good to me bud! I understand about the budget. Thankfully I stocked up on steel shot last year and dont have to buy now. I scrounged up enuff to buy new pair of waders. Montana opener Only 36 or so hour away. I am doin the same thing with 1/2" conduit, but I dont need my boat till next weekend. Good luck this season.

Derek -

A long time ago I did something similar. Be careful as the leverage on the uprights can cause the threads to snap off in cold weather. If you have any leftover metal conduit that can slip in the upright and down through the fitting, that might add some rigidity and strength. A piece about a foot long with a couple of inches sticking through might help.

I will second the comment on cold weather and PVC threaded fittings.

To support this week spot find some wood or metal rod that fits through the fitting and then use thick 5-min epoxy to fill the gap around the rod and the inside of the fitting. A short piece of rod is all that is needed and it will support the stress on the joint.

Thanks for the advice! How bout' screwing a 3/4 in. female fitting under the lip of the boat to hold the upper fitting from pulling out?

you gonna stand constantly.....thats the way it looks since the front of the blind is soo tall......thats confusing to me....why not cut it down to the correct ht. to sit and making it way easier to conceal and then sit while waiting on birds...then stand to shoot?....

Shorter uprights wouldmake the stress thing less of a problem as well...

Must be a bad angle I guess Steve. I'm 6'2" and my buddy is 6'6". The front is only 2'6" above the top of the boat, and the back is 3'6". If I cut any more off my head will be sticking out, unless I crouch down all day, but then my neck and back will hurt. I'm just looking for something to get by for this year.

must be the size of the boat and the angle....

I had a similar set up on my big boat the first year....apart bfrom being "fragile" it was a good setup....

No need to make excuses about having to save money this year,,, or for any other for that mater. I think if you are careful it will work for you and you will be way better off than not having a blind at all. Money can buy a faster set up or thicker material, but the person who has to make the call is you and your family is a part of the package now with those decisions.

I am gona sound like someones mother here, but be careful with the stand and shoot drill in a small boat with two guys. That flat bottom is gona be stable, but only so much so if its 14 feet like it looks and you are not parked on the ground.

Thanks for the comments!

I cut some cattails from work and brought them home and tied up some bundles. I'll just tie em' on each time after I set up the blind and then cut em' off when I'm done hunting. I'll bring a hand saw with me to cut some 'native' veggies to touch it up each time also. I don't want to carry around a ton of weight just in cattails. Also, I'm gonna have to buy 6 more 1/2 in. Tee's and put in 3 cross pieces to tie the front and back together. This should add some strength and also take pressure off those threaded fittings!
