Potential light at the end of this long "tunnel"...

Moderna Pharma. reported early Phase III SARS CoV-2 vaccine data this morning. Their vaccine candidate showed similar seroconversion efficiency to Pfizer's similar mRNA antigen vaccine of over 90%. Pfizer has a 1.9 billion dollar purchase contract in place with the Federal Government, while Moderna's is for 2.5million dollars. Both companies will be submitting Emergency Use Authorization requests to the FDA for fast-track approval. Where these two vaccines differ is in their shelf-life and storage requirements which will have a marked impact on their individual use and availability domestically and abroad. The Pfizer vaccine must be stored at -80F and has a five day use window once the package is opened. Moderna's vaccine has a roughly 30 day shelf-life and can be stored under standard refrigeration available in most hospital pharmacies and health departments.. Pfizer has developed shipping coldpacks, but storage, particularly in rural geographies will likely be subject of super-low refrigeration capabilities or dry-ice storage. Both companies are aiming at 100,000million two-dose vials produced by the end of 2021. The U.S. population is estimated at around 342 million individuals...who knows how many among them will opt to get vaccinated.

I can state from my former employer's vaccine production and development experiences for nearly a dozen vaccines through time, serious SEs in vaccinated patients generally occurred within the first 8-10 weeks post injection. Consequently, potential vaccinees should have a pretty clear indication of what untoward effects may result from vaccination with these compounds. What remains to be elucidated is whether vaccinated individuals remain infectious post two dose regimen.

Here is some additional background on why mRNA vaccines offer such promise for multiple diseases:
