PPF Wood Duck Mud Motor...

I squeezed the trigger this morning and ordered a mud motor from Powell Performance Fab. I hope this isn't a bad thing but my Bluebill will be powered by a Wood Duck! With a motor on the transom I have to stand to operate a bumper sticker came to mind that was on a jeep next to me at the beach one day that said "Divers Do It Deeper"!......LOL

Just for an FYI PPF is offering an optional trigger throttle now based on comments he's read on sites about the use of a twist throttle using the motor in the mud. Jake told me he hopes to update the website to show the new throttle today or tomorrow. I opted for the trigger throttle. He also mentioned that orders are starting to come in and to keep up he has stopped installing the hop up kits due to assembly time and testing but will continue to offer the kit as a DIY.

Ed,

I don't think you have to stand to operate these motors...I think some guys do that out of preference...I ran a scavenger on my Huff box and on my sport boat from the seated position.

As long as your left arm is strong enough you can run these little motors sitting down just fine. You do need to adjust the plate over the prop to allow for a neutral postion when running at full throttle. A large - 12 inch - cresent wrench or channel loc for making the bends should be along on your first outing. OR at least that was the directions in the Stump Jumper system I have.

Ray,

Thanks for the info. I have a question on Neutral position? If I understand, for instance I should bend the plate UP to allow the water pressure to force the prop down when running in a seated position so I'm physically not having to force the prop down with my arm?

Ed,

You are correct. Run it first before making adjustments, it may have enough brnd in in from the factory. Even if you decide to stand you will want the prop running at the desired depth with out have to to put undue pressure on the handle to mantain the prop depth.

My view on this design is that you could probably change the UHMW to different thicknesses at the transom to raise or lower the cavitation plate as needed. It is desiged for the 15" transom....These are very well balanced and to run with the plate just below the surface shouldn't be a big deal without bending the angle.

Dave & Ron,

Thanks for the info. I was told 2 weeks before delivery. Can't wait to get it on the bluebill and see how it runs.
