Any one here know anything about these dogs? I have a friend who is looking into them and wants to find a breeder. There is one name in the NE area in VT but not much info on the web.

Any one seen one in person?

Yeah I have, I have seen a few of the JGHV bred and tested dogs. From my limited experience they are bit different than the NAVHDA tested dogs that I have only read about. The PP I have witnessed weren't the Racing high powered types, more blocky methodical searching dogs. The one thing you need to closely select for, is coat, from everything I know its not very consistant among the breed. There is a guy in PA that very active in the JGHV realm of PP, if he is interested choosing that direction of the type of dog.

Bob,
Two good websites for information:

www.pudelpointer.org

www.versatiledogs.com

I have an 8 month old female PP from Ripsnorter Kennel (NAPPA Breeder). I got one to replace my drahthaar that did not get along with our toddler.

At 8 months she loves my son, handles well, and is pointing ruffed grouse. I have not had her retrieving shot waterfowl yet - just bumpers in the back yard.

The dogs from the NAPPA breeders have a pretty consistent coat. There is a breeder in Ohio (Bill Athens) that does a lot of waterfowl hunting with his PPs and was a lot of help on the phone when I was deciding between breeds. I wanted a dog that pointed and would retrieve late season birds on the Great Lakes.
