Push pole cradle or attachment

I have this push pole I made out of a curtain rod years ago. It just flops around my boat right now. Does anyone have any good idea on how to attach it to the deck?
Or any other push pole mounting ideas.
Thanks

David,

Look at some of the push pole manufacturers sites (Stiffy, Biscayne Bay, Carbon Marine, Loop, GLoomis, V-Marine) they offer both the mounting hardware & push poles them selves. Depending on your budget the V-Marine Rolling style mounts are very easy on the push pole and make loading & unloading a breeze.

Another option is to look into the products offered by Max-Gain Systems. They have very economically priced push poles & Mounts. I have one of their push poles for my BBIII, but do not intend to use there mounting hardware as I fear it would allow the pole to bounce out.

Good morning, Stern~

Here is how I did it on my Sneakbox:

When I am under way, my pushpole lays on the starboard deck. I poke the top of the pole through the bail up forward of the cockpit. The bail is heavy galvanized wire wrapped in decoy line to prevent chafing.

Then drop the bottom end into a chock on the stern deck.

It is important that the forward bail be large enough so I can easily put the pole through it while standing in the cockpit. Similarly, I can put the other end in the chock quickly.

I lost one pole on a long run because the wake caught my duckbill. I subsequently added a line so it can be lashed into the stern chock for long runs.

It'll stay in place while trailing - because the belly strap keeps it in place - but I normally use the pole as a ridge pole for my canvas cockpit cover.

Hope this helps,

I have been using galvanized conduit holders for designed for electrical piping for years. Cheap, locally available and work great.

David, I put a PVC fitting on the top end of my push pole that will take a screw on PVC T. I use that end for snagging decoy lines when picking up. Then on the front of the boat I fastened a ring of PVC pipe that the T won't pass through. Put the pole through the ring and screw on the T so it won't get lost. The back end I just tie up. Pics would help I know but maybe you get the idea.

Thanks guys.
I purchased the Ebay solution posted above.

I think it is an elegrant solution to above deck push pole cradles. Plus I wont snag anything on them.I like the Black option.

I like the idea of the hook for retrieving dekes.
For the other end, I'd go to a home supply and get a rubber wall hangar for brooms, etc (you said you'd made your pole out of a broom handle). They're like $2.
If you have stuff that's thicker in the handle, go to a boating supply, Gander, BPS, etc and look for the rubber hangers for paddles, etc.

Steve: What is the diameter on the pole attachment for that duck foot, and where did you get it? I'd like to add one to my pole and that looks like a better match for a wood pole than I can fine online.

Hi, Jeff~

That duckfoot is one of the original Herter's. I will measure it when I get home (up on Champlain through tomorrow). I use a clposet pole about 1 3/16" diameter. I usually have to cut down the part than fits into the socket on the duckbill head. I set it in 3M 5200.

Stay tuned,

Steve that looks like a rich-mar head.Did herters make it or did they sell the rich-mar head?

Hi, Bill~

Not sure - I'll have to look when I get home. The original Herter's had HERTERS cast right in. And, I think RICH-MAR might be the same design - whereas there are other designs on the market.
