Question about Filson sizing

I recently picked up a XXL tin cloth packer jacket thinking it would fit like my XXL hardwoods waterfowl jacket. Boy was I wrong! I must have an " Alaska Fit" jacket! At least that is my suspicion. Anybody familiar with these jackets enough to confirm that the Alaskan fit is in fact, much larger than a regular fit? I can't return the jacket but would like to order or trade for a tin cloth field jacket in what I would assume would be a standard XXL like my hardwoods version.
Any thoughts out there?

In my experiance Filson tends to run a tad on the large size. Keep in mind that most garment manufacturers have been reducing the size of their patterns for years. It allows them the ability to cust costs and upcharge.

It should shrink a bit if you wear it in the rain a time or two. I wear xl and have a xxl tincloth outfitter that shrunk down nicely after a while.
In my opinion, things are getting weird at Filson's. Not what they used to be.

Thanks for the input everybody. I think it's too big to shrink to fit me, so I'll just have to sell it and find one I can try on before I buy.
 
If you bought it from Filson it should be an exchange, you'd only have to pay shipping cost.

Or, see if there is a "Flagship" retailer near you and you may be able to avoid the shipping fees, if they are in a customer centric mood :)

The Flagship stores, in my experience, are great to work with. I do agree the standard fit seems to run a tad bigger, but you shouldn't swim in it.

The Seattle Fit seems to be for the metro-explorer crowd that considers geo-caching recreation.
 
I bought an XL tin cloth waterfowl upland coat years ago, factory direct when they stopped making them. It feels like a 2XL to me ... but it seems to fit on the hanger . . . where it's spent all but about 4 days of it's time with me.

Got a Large last year from a buddy... now to break in that tin cloth so I don't feel like the tin man! Been thinking of hanging it on the clothesline all summer.

I just don't think anybody sells Filson jackets in central Oklahoma though...

Little Joe's Boots in OK City is a Flagship Dealer. They should be able to order in a set of jackets for you to try on, no shipping cost to you. If they don't carry them, they can ship the extra jacket(s) back. Ask if they would exchange the existing one that is too big. If none of them fit satisfactorily, you only have your trip. The Flagship Dealer designation should act a bit like "Orvis Approved" destinations. You should expect that they will work everything over the phone and provide a very high level of service. If you do not expect it, then that part of the value proposition won't work well.

Good luck which ever way you go. For me a shopping trip to the Seattle factory is on the "bucket list" :)
 
In my (sad) experience anyone around 6' tall or so should buy their jackets in the "tall" version to get longer sleeves.
