Is a traditional bbsb hull a displacement or planing hull?

And can someone explain the feather edge , hull meeting deck? What are the differences? can someone post a few pictures of the two ... I guess what I'm looking to learn is whats the traditional bbsb hull feather edge right? Its where the deck meets the hull... its comes to a point I guess you could say? The other would be a boat that has sides to it like a Devil boat? Take a look at these pictures of this boat tell me what I got please.. I know its a displacement hull .. I thought it was also traditional in the respects of a feather edge? Thanks again , Ed

Do you mean "Devlin boat" or are you referring to working with epoxy and fiberglass to create fillets?

You've got a feather edge type sneak box. The opposite of feather edge is "sheer side" meaning it does have sides like most other types of boats. Here is an example of a sheer side sneak box.

The Devlin boats would also be considered sheer side.

Can't really tell from the photos if your box is a displacement or planing hull. Rocker at the back end would be a defining characteristic of a displacement hull. If the bottom curves up to meet the transon, that would be rocker. If the bottom is more straight from the center of the boat to the transom that would indicate more of a planing hull type.

Ed-

It looks like you got a bunch of good answers but to sum up, a traditional BBSB has a displacement (spoon) hull and feather edge.

Take care,
