Questions on a Fordom

I bought a used Fordom awhile ago and have now started making decoys, but I am having trouble with it.

I thought it was a direct drive system, but when I take an aggresive cut, I can stop the bit, but the motor is still spinning. Any ideas? Where can I got to get parts?

Thanks Andrew

Andrew, Call Willy at the Duck Blind, 800-852-7352 he should be able to help you and get you to the parts needed, if they are.

Good Luck and GET CARVIN'

mine did that.. it was a bad shaft. the lil nub that holds the collet was worn down. you should be able to find a shaft at warren cutlery. might want to get some new collets while you are at it.. all of that together should be less than $20

Buy an extra shaft, real easy to replace. I had my fordom for about 3 days and the bit wraped around my loose shirt, bad move, and snapped the shaft. Next day I bought 2 shafts and a carving apron- I still have the extra shaft, in case of an emergency.

Andrew,

I am not a carver but i use one everyday, i am Tool and Die maker and i use it alot for cutting small pieces as well as deburring metal parts , the best advice is Lube the shaft , and DO Not bend the flexible shaft to to tight of a radius , this will burn the inner drivesaft and cause failure . It sounds like your key is gone in the hand piece or at the motor end . Good luck with the dekes and post some pics for us to look at .
