While in town I saw a group ducks in the air, thought about where there could still be open water in the area and found this....

Love that area of Maine , worked in the Jackman /Eustis area back in the 80's. But I didn't get "useless in Eustis". Still make the trip often to Yarmouth, and Orno.

Wow! Loved the photos. Such a contrast to my neck of the woods here in Oklahoma. I think we may have had a total of an inch and a half to two inches of total snow this year.

That is a great area. We have a 2nd home in Oquossoc just down the road from the sport shop. I guess the recent snows came just in time for you.

Great photos Troy.
Loved the grouse;, 'crossing the road'?
And the "High Hit Area" is a great sign.

Your daughter seems very comfortable on skis, looks like it is second nature to her.

Thanks for sharing.

Best - Paul

I lived for about 15 years in Bethel Maine. Really miss Maine. Worked at sunday river for 10 years skiied all over Maine. Saddleback and Suglarloaf are always cold even on warm days but great slopes. Hope you popped in to The Road Kill Cafe for a snack and a beer. Oguassic is a major hub for the Woods Ralley in the summer and great fun too with F1A ralley cars hitting the twich roads and hartop over the course of the weekend the 4 ralley circuits. The town fills up for the event. Used to do a loop up that way from Bethel on my Ducati and spank those roads well with a pit stop at High of the Land...Love that area.

wow awesome now theres a place to visit send me all the particulars if ya get a chance ,

i have a caption for the pic of the does in the grave yard below the hi hit sign

Hi Chris,

The Road Kill is no more, it's been gone for a while now, but I did enjoy the yard and 1/2 yards of beer they served. Stubby's is on the auction block too, another great one gone. I agree on the area, lots and lots of great dirt roads to explore. Hope that region doesn't change to much.

Love that neck of the woods. Great photos! Spent my honeymoon nearby at Lakewood Camp fishing the Rapid River. Looks like the ADK's where I live now, but they talk wicked funnier.

Great pictures Troy, thanks for sharing. Over the past 2 years hunting there in the winter I have come to just love that state. Would really like to make my way out there career wise. Fingers crossed.

Troy Great pics!

Small world, I've spent some time in an around Bethel. My wifes family lived and still has a farm south of there in Norway. Beautiful area and freindly folks once you get to know them.

Great stuff Troy. I have fished the rivers in the area for landlocks. Rapid, Dead, Kennebago, Androscoggin. One of the best places to fly fish in the East. You have to get a registered Maine Guide at some point and enjoy the experience. The best there are as good as you will get. The tradition is strong and most registered Maine Guides have a lot of pride in the way they do things.

Glad you guys liked the photo's. Rangeley is heaven on earth.

You made me chuckle on the that one Greg, I've been a Master Maine Guide since 2004. www.traditionsguideservice.com
I started out guiding for everything except bear, now I pretty much specialize in sea ducks but still do some turkey guiding and a deer hunt here and there.

I've fished the Kennebago River many times and had the pleasure of staying at Grant's Camps as well. Have also fished over in the King and Bartlett area as well.

Started fly-fishing on Quimby pond when I was 6 years old...Great memories there.

Troy, those are fantastic shots. Love being able to look at snow two thousand miles away. This is a duck related thread by the way. I'm wondering what the ducks eat to survive during the winter? Sure enjoyed seeing those great sights that you have in Maine.

Troy-if you are a Master Maine Guide, you have earned your stripes. The thing that always impressed me about that is that you have to earn it, you can't just take a couple of online courses and hang a shingle. I have had a couple and they both were great. And I have had a few really bad guides in other places, mostly because they weren't prepared and did not have the range of experience that they needed to do a good job and handle anything other than ideal conditions. Being a good guide is not about killing lots or catching lots, it is about how you take care of your sports and your knowledge of what you are doing. And then the rest falls into place. So I am glad to know about you. One of these days you just may get a call about taking me sea ducking!
