Researching old registration in NYS

Maybe someone has a contact, or family member in DMV in NY? I spent sometime on the DMV.gov site, but not sure I could direct my inquiry properly yet.

What I would like to find out is what records there maybe of the Dodge and Krowl Scooter I have.... there are hand painted numbers on her, but no state sticker was present when I bought her. It would be helpful if I could show the folks here in VA that this boat does not have a recent registration, since I bought from a guy who got it at an estate sale...no paperwork conveyed.

If anyone in NY might be able to assist, please PM me and I can get you the details that I have.

Thanks in advance,

Dave~

Boats only need registration in NYS if they are powered. I have registered a number of duckboats and sailboats here in NYS by simply explaining that it's an old boat that I now want to put a motor on. When I did, I had to contact either NYS Parks or county police to assign a HIN.

I have also been surprised to see that NYS DMV does not seem to keep registration records - at least on my 1962 Willys Jeep Pickup - for more than a few years. So, I do not think that there would be any records even if the previous owner had registered it. (just my opinion).

I would hope VA DMV would know or could confirm that non-motorized boats in NYS do not require registration - and that boats from the 1920s were not given HINs. As I understand it, the main purpose of HINs is so the maker can issue product recalls and the like.

Hope this helps,

SJS

Steve is correct , Ny doesn't store them long. I'd go to Vermont or New Hampshire and title it there . NH will title anything for cash.
