This is related to the post by Wis Boz earlier, but I thought it should have its own thread. The results of the Spring Hearings of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress just arrived. They are attached to this message below (see the PDF document).

The results, in short, are that WI voters rejected every questions regarding expansion or addition of closed areas on the Upper Mississippi Wildlife Refuge by more than a 2:1 ratio. (See questions 48-54.) The results by county are a 4:1 ratio of rejection.

These results have no binding force since the Conservation Congress is an advisory body only, and the results are taken to the Wisconsin DNR, not to the USFWS. However, it does show pretty clearly the feelings of citizens throughout the state on this issue.

I especially like the vote on question 76 myself, about expanding open water hunting opportunities. As long as rule doesn't get too complicated.

Been fighting with Kent on this one for years, and the guy before Kent.

I think that in order to keep it simple, just say lakes of 1000 acres or more are open. IF there is a specific concern from a specific lake, then make that ONE or two lakes off limits, way easier than trying to list which ones are/aren't.

also gets rid of the stupid and ambiguous "immergent veggitation" rule...I have seen guys interprete that as 50% of the boat to 1 stupid pencil reed..

Thanks for posting Rick.

think we could get them to push for a 1/2 hour before sunrise on the opener? 9 had no issues, so????

Now you're speaking my language. Being that I live just out of WI, and 300 miles from the center of the state, I have never got to the hearings. Next year I am hoping too, especially since I am sort of looking to move back to the center of the state, if the cards all fall in the right spot. Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.
