Sandhills and Snows

Headed West on I 80 ysterday from Grand Island to North Platte we were pleased to see 10's of thousands of Sandhills (my estimate) and multiple 1000's of Snow's feeding along the freeway and flying everywhere. Some Canadas and lots of ducks also on the freeway ponds. In addition there was a lot of other wildlife like turkeys and deer. If you haven't ever seen that build up it's worth the effort.

I've hunted SK and seen nthe Snows in greater numbers but not the Sandhills.

Anyway, sorry no pictures ..... putting miles on the rig. But just thought it was a great sight.

Actually I had a camera and should of had the wife stick it out the window as we were along side them for 100 miles off and on but I forgot I had it in the cab. Sorry

I am returning home from an RV trip sort of from HELL and just wanted to make miles.

My apologies to all I disappointed..but again it was a sight to behold.

That had to be fun, Brad. It has been over a month now when the light geese and sandhill cranes began to leave Bosque del Apache NWR. Yesterday while taking a break from cutting firewood, I couldn't help but notice how quiet it was in the river bottoms. I will look forward to their return some time next late October and November.
You were driving through some beautiful country which makes you very fortunate.

So last night I checked google for info on that concertration.........WOW

500,000 Sandhills usually amass in that area!!!!

There were some fields that had a solid covering, a bird every few feet, on maybe 100 acres!

What a sight, just a moving blanket of grey backs.

Now I wish I had stopped to watch a little.
