Sash weights redux

Rob,
I never knew what sash weights were supposed to look like.

I thought they came from the factory rusty and corroded.

They look great.

Ha ha! They were ugly and rust-dusty. The guy I got them from was in the "they're just ugly camp". I dropped him some pics of the work in progress and he was pretty amazed.

Things I learned on this project:
1) a bench grinder with a wire wheel would have been wayyyyyy better than my wire brush on the drill

2) Again, Rustoleum proves itself against the competition in my use. The PlastiDip is nice, but seems much better suited to "finish" level work. The Rustoleum FlexSeal is a paintable primer, coats great with less over spray. I used rattle cans to do some comparison work. The Rustoleum has a fairly significant "splatter" effect, so make certain your clothes can take a bit of spackle. If I do it again I'll get a quart of the Rustoleum and brush on. Also, with spray can, the black on black is tough to figure out how well you've covered the additional coats.

3) Anything like this should be in a "well ventilated area", but between the vinegar, stripper, denatured alcohol and spray paint, the wife's patience on the garage smell was waning. I knew when she asked, "So, when is duck opener this year?" Luckily that was as I put on the last coat of paint :-)

Heh, if it dries out a bit I've decoys to paint. S'pose I found oil the weights specific to each species on the line! :-)
