Saturday was spent with Dave Morton, Wendell Avery, & Wendell's 40+ yr hunting buddy Dave T. We were on Narragansett Bay hoping for a mixed bag of divers, blacks, wigeon and brant. We headed out on the 7 mile run into the dark with expectations of snow moving in after noon. Seas were calm and the run fairly effortless. We set up with all hand carved decoys including my new brant decoys. The weather was probably too nice, as most of the ducks gave us way too close a look and kept moving on to the real rafts of birds. We did knock down a couple of blacks and buffies. Sunrise was a couple of hours short of high tide and it took till noon for the tide to drop enough for the brant to start flying. But when they did they were incredible. After taking my two I started taking pictures of some of the flights with my point and shoot camera. I've linked a album of some 30 shoots taken that day. Part of the series includes a single brant inspecting my brant decoys. We eventually made too much noise and it left but not in any panic. Of course we had all limited out on brant by then so it was totally safe sitting in the decoys. We called it a day by 2 pm and actually hit the road in the snow by 3:15pm and the normal two hour trip ended up taking over four. Fortunately a hot pheasant stew awaited my arrival.
Enjoy the photos even though they are just a point and shoot. Far as I can figure just pick a pic & magnify it and you end up in a slide show. I haven't figured out how to start it from the fist pic in the album but once in the show the pictures are at least in the right order.
