Scoter pattern

Anyone have a pattern for a surf scoter decoy they would like to share? I am going to finally try my hand at carving. I am more in need of the head than anything.

I am carving one for a decoration, not gunning to start. Otherwise I would just get a rattle can of black and some milk jugs.....

Here is a "floating decorative" Skunkhead that sits on my mantel. It was carved for me by Ed Feeley - a good friend from Long Island who was taken too young - several years ago - by leukemia.

Let me know if you want additional photos. I can take true profile and plan views (and any details you want) and give you the measurements.

Here is Ed in the layout I converted for him from his Minifish. The decoy was "payment" for the work I did on the boat.

That is an incredible specimen. If you care to show some close ups of the head from some other angles, that would help.

My family and I have had a couple of trips these last couple years. There always seems to be a bird or a special species that sticks out. I want to collect a quality decoy of one to commemorate the trip. Last year it was a brant. This year is a scoter. Unfortunately I can't find any nice workin scoter decoys online for a reasonable price.

I have been wanting to start carving, so why not try it myself I guess. If it doesn't look good when I am done, I can always hunt over it.

Here are some key dimensions and the most important profile and plan views. If you shoot me a PM, I will send you another dozen or so of different aspects. I'm sure Ed would be proud to know his carving is appreciated.
