She floats, she sculls!

I just got back from the maiden voyage in my float. I didn't capsize! I have had thoughts of what I would do if she was too tipsy, but no need to worry.

She tracked straight and sculled fine with the oar over the stern. Now I will drill a proper oar hole and finish her up for the opener in a couple weeks.

Sorry no on the water shots yet. I didn't have an on shore photographer.

Like I mentioned in another post. Very impressive! I know you've been working on her for a long time and must be pretty pleased!

I only wish it took me a long time to finish. This took a bit longer than that. I am quite happy now that I will get to hunt her.

Fine piece of work!!

I'm looking forward to reading your stories this season.

I have the plans for one sitting in the corner of my shop and might get around to building it eventually.

Good luck with her.

Isn't that a great feeling?

Before I took out my build for its first float I really worried that it would sink, or sit too low in the water, or sit askew in the water, or leak, or, well you get the idea.

Thanks everybody. I installed the oar hole today. Or did I uninstall part of the stern? I will need to take it out again to get a feel for real sculling in the next week. However it was 90 degrees today. Too, too hot.

Andy,

Boat looks awesome! I may have missed it somewhere, but what plans did you build from? Again, great job and look forward to some on the water pics!

There are very few scull plans available. I couldn't find exactly what I wanted so I made my own. I used the offsets in John Gardner's book for reference, but made it narrower, slightly longer and changed everthing above the sheer. I also added lift to the stern.

Very nice work!

By the way...is fall ever coming around here??? My early archery deer season is over tomorrow and I haven't even hunted yet because it's been 90 every stinkin' day!

I am really hoping for cooler weather next weekend. I am sure we will go right to winter when it does change. It seems we only have winter and summer anymore. Do you every hunt Idaho?

They're calling for highs in the 50's and lows in the 30's this coming week. Snow level on Tuesday night is supposed to be around 3,000 ft. or lower! You're right, it just skips right past fall around here and goes straight into winter.

No, I haven't hunted in Idaho (yet), but I've heard good things about it. Maybe I'll splurge and buy an Idaho license this year. Only a few more weeks now!!!

Very Cool. I just finished my Kara Hummer and Was so Excited to have it in the water. the next time you get it out you should get some pics to post. I was lucky enough to have my wife with me. Congratulations!!! keep us posted.

Nice job Andy! Gotta love the weather, supposed to start coolin off today(we hope). Tryin to make it up to Newport Wash area this year. Have a freind with a big peice up on the River north of there, Cast & Blast, its full of smallmouth and pike, or should I say Blast & cast... It was 25 degrees at sunrise in the Big Hole(Wisdom, MT) this past weekend but 70 by 10 am.
