Shotgun Stolen

Eric,

I haven't had a gun stolen. But, I have on occasion forgotten my gun in my truck. I know once I remembered in the middle of the night and went out to get it. My wife thought I was crazy until I reminded her our vehicles get ransacked once or twice a year. It is usally durg addicts looking for change or something to quickly sell for a couple of bucks. I never intentionally lock my vehicles because they will break a window to go through it. My neighbor found that out the hard way. The police usually catch them after a while.

I remember growing up in the largest suburb of Chicago and not always locking our front door at night. Those days are gone forever!

Sorry for the frustration and aggravation and loss of a favored weapon,

Tom

I had a alarm system in my old Toyota 4-Runner. Meth-Heads on ATV's broke in anyway. Tried to steal all our fly fishing, and camera equipment, plus everything else.
Only our return from fishing stopped them from taking everything. If they want it, they ARE gonna get it. It's only stuff - not Life.

M-1 is a damn fine shotgun. Mine serves me well. Lets hope your new shotgun does as well......

My guess is more rich teenagers looking for a thrill, or a druggie looking for his next score.

Definately amatuer night..."smart thieves" won't mess with guns, brings federal attention to their otherwise easy pickins. Car alarms...no one pays attention to them anymore. Back when they first came out, it was a big deal if you heard an alarm going off, then everyone (except aparently me) got one, and they were constantly going off and no one paid any attention to them any more.

That sucks, but as has been said, it's just stuff...and don't hold your breath thinking the insurance settlement will 'fix it'...been through two of those in as many months...don't get me started.

As for the replacement gun, I'm a pump guy, have been since my second season hunting, and though I've been eyeing up some 20 ga doubles, I'll always be a pump guy at heart. Just can't beat the reliability.

Just got word from my insurance agent that my deductable is $1000. All that does is PISS ME OFF MORE AT THE PIECE OF SHIT who stole my gun. If I find them I will push for the maximum penalty, even moreso if it is a rich kid from my own area.

Eric,
Car alarms only make them run away a little faster with your stuff and besides, mine only works when I remember to lock my truck.
The cameras have infrared and do pretty good at night.
Couple other reasons I got it is because there is a bus stop at the back part of my property and kids will be kids, my barn at the back of my lot doesn't have an alarm and my house alarm isn't connected to a service. If someone walks up to any doors the system texts and emails me instantly.
Also, since we have a small business we get daily UPS deliveries that sit on our porch until evening. I know exactly when the delivery is made, and I can call the cops if someone tries to walk off with a box. It's also nice when we go north for the weekend or on vacation... DVR records 24/7.
They are a deterrent, I think they also reduce house insurance, I'll find out after I put another camera up in a blind spot.
Here's a pic from a few minutes ago.
The fish eye camera can be remotely controlled from my smart phone or any computer I'm at... I love techy stuff :)

Care to give us a ballpark estimate of how much this was to buy and install? Have looked into a few times for the church here but have yet to find anything resonable.

Eric- Sounds like the perfect icing on the cake with a $1000 deductible. I had a small 12' jon boat stolen with a $500 deductible. Thank you, NOT!

Is your insurance double screwing you by chance? Hit you for the damage done to your Tacoma (glass breakage and other auto damage = auto deductable) and then hit you with your homeowners deductible since the gun that was stolen goes against that policy.

Wait till you see what now happens to your insurance rates next year as well. They will go up. Last time I had something stolen, and the pukes were caught, I made them pay for any future insurance rate upcharges that could occur and the justice system made them do so.

I am holding my breath for a similar screwing tommorrow. I got backed into in a parking lot and found out my deductable is $500.00. Tommorrow I get an estimate on the little dent, stay tuned for the result of that one. At least the driver stayed around to give me his info, I still will have to pay up front, what the hell!!!

As promised here is the result of my parking in the wrong place at the wrong time= Estimate to repair my truck damage $624.00/ Deductable = $600.00. It should work out if the other drivers insurance pays but if it had been hit and run guess who pays ??

I went though the hit and run thing a long time ago. A guy in an old truck...60's vintage ran a red light and clipped the front end of my 1974 Vega (it was a long time ago). He kept going. I couldn't drive my car to get it out of the intersection. Cop showed up and after what seemed like hours a tow truck towed my car home. Insurance adjuster came out a couple of days later and asked where I wanted it taken. Long story short. My insurance company paid for the damage after my $250 deductable and a 3 month wait for my car. The following month I get a letter from the insurance company that they cancelled me. Seems I got a ticket for failure to have my car under control! When I was signing things the cop never told me I got a ticket for anything. On top of that I had recently paid my insurance premium and do you think I got a refund for the balance?????

the front end of my 1974 Vega

No wonder you got a ticket. Driving a Vega, you were never quite in control. I remember one my grandmother used to drive with great affection . . . .

BBBWWWAAAAAAA....I traded it for a 1978 4x4 shortbed Chevy. We all make mistakes. BTW...my grandmother liked mine too.

Andrew,
For the 4 camera system from Costco I paid around $500. My brother got an 8 camera system for 600 after a rebate. Each system is expandable to more cameras, mine to 8 and his to 16.
Very easy install. With the remote monitoring and smartphone ap I have no issues keeping tabs on what's what.

A friend that had 23 guns stolen told the DA no deals. 23 guns is not a lark. Kid has letters from friends, pastor and the like saqying he is a good kid. He committed a FELONY. Don't let them make a deal. No community service. Im tired of lawyers not wanting to go to court. Don't put me on the jury.

With hunting season well underway and looking at vacation this and next week I bought a new gun to replace the stolen M1. Looked around and tried several makes and models but went with another Benelli, an M2. Almost went with the Super Black Eagle II but for the life of me don't think I will ever shoot 3 1/2" shells. Only downside to the new Benellis was they changed the choke configuration so my set of Briley chokes won't fit. I really like them and hate to lose the flexibility of swapping chokes on the fly with no tools. Other than that I'm pleased with the new gun and in my hands feels like an old friend. I hope my old friend is recovered but am not holding out.

yeah, i hate that they changed the chokes. I have a collection of chokes that fit all my early benelli/beretta/HK. I probably wouldn't buy anything new now, because i have all the Brileys and turkey tubes for the older guns. i'd look for an H&K stamped SBE1

Eric,
I also had an original M1 and aboslutley loved it. Stolen as well and I replaced it with the M2. You're right it fits like an old friend and I don't see the need to shoot 3 1/2" either. Never got the gun back even though I gave the police suspect information, they called me a year later to ask if I had recovered the gun, uh no did you? or did you follow up on the lead I gave you? No answer.

Wow Eric, that really sucks. I've heard of a rash of burglaries in Hampton Cove plus we've had several across the highway in Big Cove / Hampton Ridge. I hope you find the bastids that stole it ... I'll hold em down, you can beat on them :)
